All You Need to Know About Shower Head Filter

You may have not heard much about the benefits of shower head filters for hard water. Shower head filters for hard water are being well-reviewed by most people who are searching for filters to improve their hair and skin condition.

Most people don’t realize that shower head water filters only remove chlorine. It does remove volatile organic compounds (VOC) but it also removes other chemicals that may help prevent or relieve some health conditions. When you read health care studies, you find that some conditions were relieved when people started using a shower head filter for hard water.

Remove various common chemical contaminants

Shower filters are designed to remove various common chemical contaminants like chlorine, benzene, and toluene. However, they also remove a range of naturally occurring chemicals known as heavy metals. These chemicals are released into water supplies from mines and processing plants. Some researchers believe that exposure to heavy metals over a long period can cause brain damage.

A shower head filter for hard water will cost between six to eight dollars, depending on the size of the unit. The larger the unit, the more it will cost. The filter can last up to twenty years if it is properly maintained. The filter is replaced periodically.

Replace the chlorine in old filters

Most filters remove chlorine, but some contain an additional chemical called potassium. This chemical is used to replace the chlorine in old filters. Other filters may include an ion exchange system that replaces organic compounds, which would otherwise be exchanged with chlorine during showering. Ion exchange systems may cost as much as ten times more than other filters.

A shower filter will get rid of lead, copper, and mercury, and other metal particles. The amount of particles it removes depends on how it works. Shower filters that rely on mechanical pressure to get rid of contaminants may not work as well. A pressure shower filter, which uses a pump to circulate the water through the filter, will work best. If you have a showerhead that uses hot water, you should consider an ion exchange system instead. Ion exchange systems do not require hot water, but they need to run at a low enough rate to ensure that they do a good job.

Bad for your health

Chlorine and other heavy metals are bad for your health. You should not shower in chlorinated water. If you must, use a filter that filters down to one micron. Filters that filter down to two microns can filter out chlorine. As a rule of thumb, you should always buy a shower filter that filters down to a three-micron size.

Replaced regularly

The cons of using an oil filter cartridge to purify water include reduced effectiveness. An oil filter cartridge needs to be replaced regularly. The latest price for an oil filter cartridge is about two hundred dollars. Replacement cartridges can run about fifty dollars.

A disadvantage of an oil filter cartridge is that it only filters out a tiny amount of contaminants. You will probably need to replace the cartridge more often. The latest filtration systems can trap more than 99% of all harmful particles in water. In time, it becomes cheaper and more cost-effective to use an under-the-sink liquid filtration system that requires no replacement filters. The benefits of showerhead filtration systems are worth the initial investment.
