4 of the Most Famous Celebrity Engagement Rings
Over time, there have been some exceptional celebrity engagement rings, from custom made pieces to antique engagement rings and everything inbetween. So, we are here to introduce some beautiful celebrity engagement rings, dating right back to Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor
Jackie Kennedy – Engaged in 1953
First up we have Jackie Kennedy, who got engaged to JFK in 1953 and her engagement ring has been iconic ever since. The breathtaking ring contained both a striking emerald and a diamond, surrounded by smaller diamonds. It was very unique and nothing quite like it had been seen before, which is why the ring has been replicated so many times since.
After JFK had died, Jackie got remarried in 1968, to Aristotle Onassis, who presented her with a stunning 40 carat diamond ring! This ring was later sold at auction for $2.59 million.
Elizabeth Taylor – First Engaged in 1956
Elizabeth Taylor was a very famous and talented actress, but she was also very well known for her 8 engagements and marriages. Although many of her engagement rings were extremely impressive, one of the highlights was the ring given to her by Mike Todd, a breathtaking diamond which is worth around $9 million! At the time, it was the highest per-carat price ever paid for a colourless diamond at $265,000.
After she died, an auction was held to sell all of her stunning jewellery, which fetched a staggering $116 million!
Princess Diana – Engaged in 1981
One of the most iconic royal engagements of all time was Princess Diana and Prince Charles, who were engaged in 1981. After the engagement was official, she was able to choose from a selection of rings already owned by the royal family, from which she selected a stunning sapphire surrounded by diamonds, a ring that reminded her of her mother’s.
As we know, their engagement and marriage was very turbulent, however she continued to wear it after the divorce. It was Prince Harry who inherited the ring after she died, however when Prince William was ready to propose to Kate, he gave it to his brother. Kate continues to wear the beautiful vintage sapphire engagement ring today, which is thought to be worth £400,000.
Kim Kardashian – Engaged in 2014
Last but not least, we have Kim Kardashian’s iconic engagement ring, presented to her by Kanye West, thought to be worth $3 million. The proposal itself was just as extravagant as the ring, as he rented out the AT&T Park and flew all of her family and friends out to be there for the moment. The stunning ring was famous in it’s own right, it became even more famous following the terrifying robbery she endured in Paris, when the ring was stolen. She since had a replica made by her favourite jeweller, Lorraine Scwartz, as neither the ring nor the rest of the jewellery that was stolen was able to be recovered. The only exception was one necklace that was dropped by the thieves as they left her hotel room.
