Boston Trip Updates & Cyber Monday Savings – UPDATED with Itinerary – What Kate Wore

Boston Trip Updates & Cyber Monday Savings – UPDATED with Itinerary – What Kate Wore

There are now more details available on the visit to Boston this week by the Prince and Princess of Wales.

  • The couple’s visit will cover three days. Their first engagement is on Wednesday when they arrive, and their last engagement will be at the Earthshot Prize Awards on Friday, December 2.
  • The Prince and Princess will visit a climate technology incubator, a non-profit focusing on young people, and they will learn about the climate challenges that Boston faces. The Princess will have a solo engagement at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, and Prince William will spend time at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
  • This year the Earthshot Awards has partnered with the John F. Kennedy Foundation, more than appropriate as the late President’s ‘Moonshot’ inspired Prince William to create the awards.
  • The awards are a global environmental prize “that aims to discover and scale innovative solutions to help repair the planet within a decade. There are five £1 million prizes honoring initiatives that help meet five key goals: protect and restore nature; clean our air; revive our oceans; build a waste-free world; fix our climate.” Below, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at last year’s awards.

For the Prince and Princess, the Boston trip is a big moment, their first overseas visit since taking on their new roles and a critical opportunity to whip up more of an international buzz around the Earthshot Prize.

Hannah Jones, the chief executive of the Earthshot Prize, told The Telegraph: “Our goal is to become a global brand and we are one year into it.

“It’s very early days and it’s quite incredible the amount of momentum we have already got. We’re just building up. Think of it like a flywheel. You know, Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Many readers will recall the last time the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the USA in December 2014.

The duo spent three days in New York, attending a dinner for the Royal Foundation, taking in an NBA game, and visiting the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. (See the Cyber Monday section of the post for details on 50% off the Seraphine coat worn by the Duchess in the photo below.)

The Duchess visited a child development center in Harlem, and the pair attended a fundraiser for the University of St. Andrews.

Kate and Prince William, who last came to the U.S. in 2014 for a visit to New York City, are “both extremely excited for the visit,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “They feel and appreciate the warmth and excitement of the American people for their return to the U.S. and are really looking forward to meeting as many folks as possible.”

ENGAGEMENTS

  • Wednesday, November 30:
    • The visit will begin with an official welcome to Boston by Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu. Boston 25 News reports in this story that “Recognising the significant challenges that the coastal city of Boston faces as a result of climate change, The Prince and Princess will see for themselves the work that local organisations are doing to mitigate the risk of rising sea levels,” the British Embassy said.”
    • There is a second engagement that has not yet been announced.
  • Thursday, December 1
    • The Prince and Princess will learn about climate innovations when they visit Greentown Labs, the largest climate technology startup incubator in North America. The firm has “supported more than 500 companies since its founding that have collectively created more than 9,000 jobs,” per a Kensington Palace news release.
    • The royals will visit Roca, a non-profit focusing on young people considered at high risk for becoming the primary victims or drivers of violence.
    • There is a third engagement that will be announced at a later date.
  • Friday, December 2
    • The Princess of Wales will spend time at the renowned Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, which works with the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood.
    • The Prince of Wales will visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
    • The primary purpose for the royals’ trip is Friday’s Earthshot Prize Awards. The awards will be at the MGM Music Hall, a new theatre located next to Boston’s iconic Fenway Park. “The Prince and Princess will join activists, innovators, policymakers, and performers to celebrate the 2022 cohort of fifteen global Finalists before the five Winners are awarded,” per a Kensington Palace news release.

Singers Billie Eilish and Annie Lennox will lead a stellar line-up for the Prince of Wales’ Earthshot Prize awards as William and Kate roll out the red carpet stateside.

Sir David Attenborough will voice the show’s opening, while actress and Earthshot judging panel member Cate Blanchett will narrate a look back at the 2021 winners. Actor Rami Malek will present an award.
